Stone Knife Published by Patrick Richards

This stone knife was collected by Capt. Miner W. Bruce on an expedition to the Northwest coast of Alaska in 1899. Compared to the highly sophisticated harpoons and hunting weapons of coastal Eskimos around this time period this knife appears rudimentary. The hide rope used to bind the stone and wood elements is likely made from walrus or seal skin although possibly caribou as well.
